Frequently asked questions
Does the screen show anything while a story plays?
Not by default. Tapping a tag plays sound only -- the screen stays exactly as it was, even mid-story. If you'd like to see the story page, word, or song title on screen too, turn on Dashboard -> Settings -> Screen Display. It's off by default on purpose.
Which NFC tags should I buy?
Any NTAG213, NTAG215, or NTAG216 sticker works -- these are the common, cheap adhesive NFC tags sold for DIY projects. TapStory only writes a small reference id to the tag, so even the smallest and cheapest kind has more than enough room.
How do I set up Guided Access?
Open Settings on your iPhone -> Accessibility -> Guided Access, and turn it on. Set a separate Guided Access passcode. Then, any time you hand the phone to your child, open TapStory and triple-click the side button to start Guided Access; triple-click again and enter your passcode to get the phone back. Full steps are also available inside the app under Dashboard -> Guided Access Setup.
How do I get to the parent settings?
Press and hold the bottom-right corner of the locked screen for about 3 seconds. You'll be asked a simple math question before the parent dashboard opens -- this keeps young children from accidentally reaching settings or tag-writing tools.
I typed a story but it doesn't sound right -- can I fix the voice?
TapStory speaks typed text using your iPhone's built-in text-to-speech voice. For a more natural-sounding voice, go to Settings -> Accessibility -> Spoken Content -> Voices on your iPhone and download an "Enhanced" or "Premium" voice. Alternatively, switch to "Record Voice" instead of "Type Text" when creating a tag to use your own voice.
I deleted something from "My Tags" and now a physical tag doesn't work. Why?
A physical tag only stores a small reference id, not the story itself -- the actual content lives in your phone's local library. Deleting a library entry (or erasing all data in Settings) means any tag pointing at it no longer has anything to resolve to. This can't be undone, so re-create the content and write it to a new tag if this happens.
Does TapStory work on a phone without cellular or Wi-Fi?
Yes. TapStory never needs an internet connection to function -- every feature, including on-device speech synthesis, works fully offline.
What iPhones are supported?
TapStory requires an iPhone 7 or later, since that's the oldest hardware with NFC tag-reading support, running a reasonably recent version of iOS.
