Terms of Use

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the TapStory mobile application ("TapStory," "the App"). By downloading, installing, or using TapStory, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

1. Who may use TapStory

TapStory is intended to be downloaded and configured by an adult parent or guardian ("you"), for use by children under that adult's direct supervision. The App's playback screen is designed for a young child to interact with by tapping physical objects against the phone; all setup, content creation, and settings are intended to be accessed only by an adult, behind the App's built-in parent gate.

2. License

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to download and use TapStory on devices you own or control, for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not reverse engineer, resell, sublicense, or redistribute the App except as permitted by the App Store's usage rules and applicable law.

3. Your content

TapStory lets you create content -- typed text spoken via on-device text-to-speech, voice recordings, story text, and illustrations chosen from a built-in symbol set ("Your Content"). You retain all rights to Your Content. We do not access, store on our servers, or claim any ownership over Your Content -- it never leaves your device through the App.

You are solely responsible for Your Content, including making sure it is appropriate for the child(ren) who will hear it. Do not use TapStory to create or distribute content that is unlawful, infringing, or harmful.

4. Physical tags and hardware

TapStory is designed to work with commonly available passive NFC stickers (e.g. NTAG213/215/216) that you purchase separately. We are not responsible for the quality, safety, or compatibility of third-party NFC hardware. When attaching a tag to a toy, make sure the sticker is applied securely and appropriately for the age of the child using the toy -- small stickers and their backing material can be a choking hazard for very young children if removed.

5. Guided Access and device supervision

TapStory is designed to be used alongside iOS's built-in Guided Access accessibility feature, which we do not control and which must be enabled and configured manually by you. You are responsible for configuring device settings (including Guided Access, volume, and screen time controls) appropriately before handing a device to a child, and for supervising your child's use of the device generally.

6. No warranty

TapStory is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be error-free, uninterrupted, or compatible with every NFC tag or device.

7. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data (including custom recordings, story text, or your tag library), arising from your use of or inability to use TapStory.

8. Third-party terms

Your use of TapStory is also subject to Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement and the App Store's usage terms. In the event of a conflict between these Terms and Apple's standard terms regarding minimum requirements, Apple's terms will govern to the extent required.

9. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date above reflects the most recent changes. Continuing to use TapStory after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
