Privacy Policy

Last Updated: September 18, 2026

Voxbrief is built from the ground up on a fundamental principle: your thoughts, spoken voice memos, and notes belong solely to you. We do not operate remote servers, we do not require account registration, and we do not collect, transmit, or monetize your personal data.

1. 100% On-Device Processing Architecture

Voxbrief runs its entire speech-to-text and AI transformation pipeline locally on your personal Apple device hardware:

  • Stage 1 (Speech Recognition): Audio transcription is executed locally via WhisperKit running OpenAI's Whisper model through Apple's CoreML framework on the Apple Neural Engine. No audio is ever streamed or uploaded to OpenAI or any cloud provider.
  • Stage 2 (NLP Copywriting): Note restructuring and copy cleanup are performed on-device using the native Apple Foundation Model (on supported Apple Intelligence devices) or Qwen3 via MLX Swift with Apple Silicon Metal GPU acceleration. Processing takes place strictly in local memory on your device.

2. Microphone Data & Audio Recordings

Voxbrief requests microphone permission (NSMicrophoneUsageDescription) solely to capture voice memos when you explicitly initiate recording via:

  • Tapping the record button in the iPhone or Mac app
  • Tapping an Apple Watch face complication (circular, corner, rectangular, or inline)
  • Activating the Smart Stack Live Activity widget

Audio is recorded in high-efficiency AAC format (.m4a) and stored exclusively in the app's sandboxed local filesystem. Audio recording stops immediately when you tap stop or dismiss the recording view.

3. Watch-to-iPhone Synchronization

Recordings initiated on Apple Watch are transferred directly to your paired iPhone using Apple's encrypted WatchConnectivity framework (WCSession.transferFile). This transfer is handled point-to-point by the operating system over Bluetooth or local Wi-Fi without passing through any external servers or intermediaries.

4. Data Storage & User Control

All note metadata, transcripts, structured Markdown specifications, tags, and audio files are persisted strictly within your device's sandboxed storage:

  • Note metadata: Stored locally as a JSON file in your device's Application Support directory.
  • Audio files: Stored locally in your app's sandboxed Documents directory.

You have absolute control over your data at all times. You can delete individual notes or your entire history directly within the app. Uninstalling the app permanently purges all stored audio and notes from your device.

5. Optional Local LLM Endpoint (Ollama)

In Settings, Voxbrief offers an optional setting: "Use Local LLM Endpoint". By default, this option is turned OFF. If and only if you explicitly toggle this option on and specify a URL (such as a local Ollama instance running on your private local network), Voxbrief will send note transcripts to that specific address for processing. Nothing is ever sent to any third-party cloud endpoint unless you intentionally configure it.

6. Third-Party Analytics, Advertising & Tracking

Voxbrief contains zero third-party tracking frameworks, zero advertising SDKs, and zero telemetry analytics:

  • We do not use Google Analytics, Firebase, Mixpanel, or similar telemetry libraries.
  • We do not track user identifiers, device advertising IDs (IDFA), or location data.
  • We do not sell, rent, or share any information with third parties.

7. App Tracking Transparency (ATT)

In accordance with Apple App Store Review Guideline 5.1.2, Voxbrief does not track users across apps or websites owned by other companies, nor do we share user data with data brokers. Therefore, App Tracking Transparency prompts are not required.

8. Children's Privacy

Because Voxbrief operates entirely locally and collects no personal data, it does not knowingly collect information from children under the age of 13 or any other age group.

9. Changes to this Privacy Policy

If we update this Privacy Policy in future versions, the revised policy will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" timestamp. Material changes will be highlighted in the application's App Store release notes.
